97. Change is Inevitable- How to Stop Fighting it So You Can Grow Together

Episode show notes

Now that we’re trying out the digital nomad gig, my husband Max and I are spending a lot of time together. Like, a lot. And trust me, there is nothing like extended time in small spaces while traveling to highlight any cracks in a relationship that you need to work on. But the good news is that bumps in the road of your relationship are actually good! They’re a sign that things are growing, and that’s the whole point of being with someone and being human.

If this is your first listen with me, allow me to introduce myself and welcome to the Soulfully Confident Podcast! I’m your host, Emily Elizabeth, creator of the Soulfully Abundant Group Coaching program and certified Life Coach. This podcast is for the person who feels insecure, lost, and wants more from life but feels stuck. It is for their life. In this podcast, we will cover topics including self-love, managing your emotions, reconnecting in your relationships, and even manifestation. Remember, you are loved, you are worthy, and you are so capable of anything you want to achieve. Let’s jump in!

Grow Together

Relationships are Meant to Evolve

Nothing in this world is stagnant, so why would your relationship be any different? It’s so important to learn not to fight change, or panic when it starts happening. And for some reason, that’s usually our gut reaction.

Resist this notion that change is bad or scary or it automatically means you’re not going to be able to grow together. This is not an excuse to not do the work to be self-aware. It’s just that acceptance and communication are key, and doing both without judgment is vital. You want to make sure that you are your partner’s safe space so that when they feel themselves evolving they feel like they can come to you. Through attempting to approach things, even the hard things, with compassion instead of judgment, you’ll have built a foundation of loving trust that invites open communication and mutual emotional labor in building your relationship.

In this FREE 3 day training, I will share with you exactly how I went FROM: insecure, 'fake it until I make it' mentality, and very lost in my relationship TO: crushing my goals, feeling in control of my emotions, totally empowered to go after what I want, and to being in a truly secure and satisfying relationship.

Don’t Let the Future Steal Now

It’s so easy to try and control the changes we are undergoing, as well as those of our partner. So often we fixate on how we hope they’ll change, without appreciating who they are now. If you have certain expectations or hopes it’s important to communicate those with your partner. You have to find the balance between working on things together for the changes you both want without overlooking all the wonderful things your relationship does have, and the beauty of the connection you have right now.

Learn the Language of Love: The Bottomline

At the end of the day, you’re constantly learning your partner. And that should be a fun fact to discover; you get to discover and rediscover each other for a lifetime! Exciting! A lifetime of learning and re-learning how your partner needs to be loved, and of learning how you like to be loved.

Make sure any requests on how to improve the relationship are received without judgment and expressed from a place of love. This helps your partner genuinely want to try and change dynamics to fulfill your needs. And once that switch happens, and you are fulfilled in their love, you’ll have nothing but love to give back to them. It’s a win-win. And that’s what a relationship should be; a place of mutual understanding and love, freely expressed the way the other needs. Imagine a lifetime of compassionate communication and learning new ways to love- yes, please.
