Challenge yourself to stop saying you are ready for this year to be over
I want you all to sit down and reflect on 2020 to find the good in it. I guarantee you, it’s there even through all the bad things that have happened this year. If you find this challenging, you need to search for that silver lining and step into the belief that everything is happening for you and not against you. I do this a lot as part of my coaching method with my clients. We have to find the good in things no matter how deep we have to dive. It is life-changing when you embrace that belief and realize that there is always something for you to learn and something for you to grow from. For me, I focus on that belief not only when reflecting on 2020 but when I reflect on any situation. I don't like to speak negatively about anything in my life like I used to in the past. I used to complain a lot and put the blame where blame should not be given. So since we are at the end of 2020, we have to use this time to start thinking about new beginnings and new goals.
In this FREE 3 day training, I will share with you exactly how I went FROM: insecure, 'fake it until I make it' mentality, and very lost in my relationship TO: crushing my goals, feeling in control of my emotions, totally empowered to go after what I want, and to being in a truly secure and satisfying relationship.
How you can reflect on 2020
Now is a beautiful time to reflect. I challenge you to take at least 10 minutes to sit down with your thoughts and look back on 2020. I want you to list five amazing things. It can be five things that challenged you or five things that made you grow. Anything amazing that happened in 2020, I want you to take those five things and find the good in it. Think about how genuine it felt to you and how it is such a positive feeling.
The point of this is not for you to rush through it, but it is to challenge you to think about the good. Do it and see where your mind takes you. Pay attention to whether this is difficult exercise for you or if it’s fairly easy. If it is difficult for you, that is totally okay. That is your brain telling you that your thought process is filtered to go in the direction of negativity. If you find that this is you, don't beat yourself up over it. We have trained our brains to filter in the negative things of every situation rather than the positive. It is up to you to switch that and challenge yourself to find those five positive things. This will get you thinking about what goals you want to set and all the things you want to achieve.
Tips for goal setting your New Year’s resolutions
How you talk about your goals is everything. How you speak and think develops the relationship with you and that goal. Instead of saying, “I think I can do it”, say “I know it’s possible for me.” Instead of saying, “We’ll see what happens”, say “This is going to happen”. We doubt ourselves all the time and it is that subtle change in words that matters and is going to push you to accomplish your goals. How you talk about your goals matters. When I am talking about my New Year’s resolutions I already know the ones I am going to achieve versus the ones I'm not based on the way I'm talking about them. One of my goals that is being carried over from last year's resolution is learning Dutch. It is a challenging language, but I am getting there step by step. In the past year, I didn't speak highly of this goal and I didn't make it a priority like my other goals. It is on my list this year and I'm going to do my best to achieve it.
Your next challenge is to write down five things you want to accomplish in 2021. A lot of people say health, money, relationships - this is way too generic. I want you to get more specific. When I do this I write my income goal, I've written the specific level of Dutch that I want to learn, and I've written specific goals about my health and dieting. When you have all your specifics written down, I want you to write an affirmation statement. Another tip is to release the how. So many people get stuck in the “How am I going to do it?”, “How long will it take?”, “How do I start?” Take a step back and remind yourself that you do not need to know exactly how, you just have to decide where you want to start. The simplest place to start is writing your goals and affirmations down. Start with simple affirmations and take baby steps.
