Tip #1: Take a moment to notice your thoughts and tell yourself they’re not true.
I woke up feeling anxious today. My mind was running through all these untrue thoughts that only amplified my anxiety. I am very aware of my thoughts as I do my coaching work, so I immediately tell my brain that the thought isn’t true. This is my first tip. Take a moment to notice your thoughts and tell yourself it’s not true. Sometimes we can think of all these negative thoughts that are completely irrational.
Tip #2: Get in touch with your thoughts and journal.
Take a moment and journal with your thoughts for a few minutes. If you have been following me, you know I’m an avid journaler. I think especially on days where I feel this anxiety, it’s important you sit down with your thoughts.
Tip #3: Move your body.
Move your body even if it’s a quick walk outside. I did a very intuitive yoga class today on my own, it was exactly what I needed. This can also be a great distraction from the negative thoughts going on in your mind. The power of movement is real!
Tip #4: Shower and get ready for the day.
Shower, get dressed, get ready for the day. Don’t just put on some sweats or leggings, put on some jeans for a change. I put on some jeans today, some makeup, and I blow-dried my hair. I got myself feeling fresh and hygienic. This is super important. Also, have your surroundings clean and organized! When you look around and have a messy or chaotic household, it adds to the negativity. So get up, shower, and tidy up your surroundings.
In this FREE 3 day training, I will share with you exactly how I went FROM: insecure, 'fake it until I make it' mentality, and very lost in my relationship TO: crushing my goals, feeling in control of my emotions, totally empowered to go after what I want, and to being in a truly secure and satisfying relationship.
Tip #5: Stop resisting and fighting against anxiety.
Through all of this, if you are waking up with anxiety or feeling a bit depressed, these tips I’m mentioning will be harder to do. Your brain will want to fight you and try to tell you to stay on the couch. It’s easy to indulge in anxiety. For example, as I talk to you right now, I still have a pit in my stomach and I didn't get fully rid of the anxiety I was feeling earlier. It will be with me all day, but I am accepting it. It’s just one of those days where negative thoughts are firing much more easily than the positives ones, I am okay with that.
Tip #6: Find something motivational to read or listen to.
Read a devotional every morning. Whether that’s an affirmation, listening to a positive speaker, or turning on some positive music. Listen or read something that can distract you away from your thoughts. Surround yourself with positive vibes, avoid sad music or sad movies.
Tip #7: SMILE and repeat positive words of affirmation.
Repeat in your head some sort of mantra that just works for you. In the shower today, I smiled to myself and repeated to say “Thank you”, this is a form of cognitive therapy. If you smile it sends a signal to your brain something happy has happened. If you can hold a smile and speak out some sort of positive mantra, you may feel a jolt of happiness and release of anxiety.
