Are You Having Upstream or Downstream Thoughts? How to Shift to a Thought Pattern That Serves You

The difference between upstream thoughts and downstream thoughts.

First, let's go over the concept of upstream thoughts.

Upstream thoughts are based on your actions of trying and efforting to make things work out. It's exhausting and you feel like you're constantly moving in a struggle.

When looking at downstream thoughts, those usually just go with the flow. Maybe you hit a little bump in the road but there's no resistance because you get over it. Most of us are going upstream though…

We have a lot of upstream actions that are more negative and require more effort, trying, and doing. We focus on a problem in order to get what we want and this is a really hard way of thinking. It honestly makes everything worse for us!

Upstream thoughts have a really emotional effect on us because we're going to feel exhausted, defeated, and basically like nothing ever works out.

When we go downstream, it’s the complete opposite.

It feels like everything is working out for us no matter what. This is an idea that is hard for a lot of people to grasp because they can't ever imagine something tragic NOT happening.

In this FREE 3 day training, I will share with you exactly how I went FROM: insecure, 'fake it until I make it' mentality, and very lost in my relationship TO: crushing my goals, feeling in control of my emotions, totally empowered to go after what I want, and to being in a truly secure and satisfying relationship.

How to stay in a constant flow.

Think of an area of your life that you want to improve.

For me, it's my relationship with food. I have this idea of my body that is constantly improving because I went with the natural flow of learning to accept my body and love it instead of bashing it. But... I still struggle with it, which is an upstream thought.

In this area of my life, I have to think about more downstream thoughts. Here are some that I use that are actually super helpful and lead me to the end of the river:

  • I’m getting better and better all the time.

  • I have greatly improved my relationship with my body.

  • I love the body that I have.

  • I learned which foods feel better for me and I'm so grateful.

  • Food is easy, food is my friend, my body heals itself.

For whatever area in your life you want to improve, use these types of thoughts to have a better flow of thinking to follow your river without a struggle.

When we start focusing more and more on positive thinking, we'll get back into the flow of well-being and that's a much better place to be. You're not faking it, it's simply just going to shift your emotions over time.

When you release that resistance, you're in a better place to take more inspired action and change the situation you're currently in!

Abundance is available to all of us.

We have to stop rowing against the stream, PLEASE

It's stressful and it's hard but just throw away the paddles and let the river take you where it needs to take you. Give your story a break and stop focusing on where you're so caught up because guess what?

You are going to drown.

You can't solve anything when you're drowning and you most definitely can't reach abundance.

The more and more you have a positive thought pattern, the more things are going to work out for you. It all starts with fewer negative thoughts and more thoughts that serve you. It’s definitely a process but just check in with yourself and catch yourself when you go upstream.

Practice awareness to reach abundance because your emotional state needs to be acknowledged.
