Look back and smile.
But what if you when you look back a flood of negative memories overflows your brain? You just can’t find the positive.
Then you spin. Spin in all the ways it could have been different, better or just wishing for a re-do. What happens next...pain, regret, self loathing, anxiety, anger, stress, sadness, insecurity. And then, on top of all that, you beat yourself up about feeling this way. Your confidence and self love go crashing down.
I find myself there sometimes. We all do. But my negative thought spins are so much better today than 1 year ago. Why? Because I did the WORK.
This thought cycle is ‘normal’. Your brain is operating efficiently. You’ve formed thought patterns from practicing this way of thinking, it’s easier for your brain to go to negative thoughts then exert energy to come up with a new thought. Find some relief in that. You’re brain is operating in survival mode, the least energy exertion the better - that’s how the brain was designed.
But, what if we want a new type of brain efficiency? One that serves us. One that generates the emotions we want to feel...happy, excited, fun, joy, smart, capable, love, peace, secure, confident.
It’s 100% possible to get there. It takes practice & commitment but it WORKS. I am proof. My clients are proof and many, many other people who practice this work.
I still have to do the WORK. Everyday. Some days, situations, memories are harder than others...but I find comfort in knowing I have the tools to manage it all. I find relief in knowing that it is normal to have ‘bad days’ and that I have control over how much I let those days spiral me down.
Down, down, down is where most of us go. But, what if we just felt it, allowed it, embraced that emotion that we are so scared of? Have you ever tried that? Once you do, there is a relief and you are in a much calmer place to analyze your thoughts from a place of compassion rather than judgment.
Like I said, this is a practice. It takes time to retrain our thought patterns, but it is 100% possible.
