Upside-down Perspectives

Do you ever feel like your whole world is upside down?

I hear this, or something like it, all the time with my clients.

I’ve felt this way myself.

And, the best advice I can give is...ENJOY THE VIEW.

Life isn’t always perfect, in fact it never is and neither are we. That can be a beautiful thing if you let it.

We learn, grow, improve from our world being flipped over on us.

So, you have a choice. Stop trying to run, avoid, resist or react... embrace it, feel it, own it, experience it. All your pain.

It’s such a relief to just let yourself feel what you’re feeling.

Don’t believe me? Just try it. The next time you’re feeling angry, sad, stress, insecure, heartache, frustration, annoyance... Don’t run, hide, and especially don’t react to it. Just sit. Welcome it. I promise, those ‘not so nice’ friends always have something to teach us.

Rumi’s poem, The Guest House, expresses this well:

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
